Bilston Creek Horticulture

Meet the horticulturist

Kara Delbrouck

Kara graduated from the Camosun College Horticulture Technician program 2013 and has been working in the field ever since. Her decade in the trade has allowed her to hone her skills in many aspects of horticulture but especially the identification, selection, pruning and health of plants. Kara is passionate about continuing her education in horticulture and seeks out scientific research in horticulture to bring a fact-based approach to her gardening practice. In her spare time, Kara can be found working in her own garden, meeting with friends in the industry to discuss anything horticulture, attending lectures and events by local gardening groups, volunteering at environmental restoration events, and taking hikes to observe native plants in their natural habitat.

Kara started Bilston Creek Horticulture in 2019 and has been proudly serving the Westshore and surrounding CRD since. The name Bilston Creek Horticulture was chosen to reflect her love of the local natural spaces and plants in the place she calls home, the Bilston Creek Watershed, which spans Langford and Metchosin.

Here are just some of the ways we can help:

Restore & maintain

Get the most out of your existing garden.

Whether it’s restoring an old garden or keeping a beautiful garden looking its best, maintenance is the most important aspect of long term success for any garden.
soil & plant health

Ensure a healthy foundation.

Bilston Creek Horticulture focuses on supporting healthy soil micro fauna through our garden maintenance practices. The soil food web is a diverse and complex system of micro and macro-organisms. When those organisms are in balance your plants thrive and your garden can help support a biodiverse network of mammals, insects, reptiles, amphibians, and much more.
use less water

Embrace the summer dry climate.

Some of our old garden favourites are becoming difficult to grow in our hot and dry summers. In a changing climate, we can help you change your plant list, too. Tailor your garden to thrive with reduced water consumption and find new garden favourites.
creating spaces

Enjoy a space specially tailored to you.

Whether a large or small space, attention to every detail is important to creating a cohesive and pleasing space. Allow us to help harness the full functionality and beauty potential in your yard.
experienced pruning

Maximize the potential of your shrubs and trees.

Every pruning action has a growth reaction. With extensive training and on the job experience we can prune to optimize a desired goal like fruit production, flowering, or size and form.
Challenging Conditions

Create a thriving garden in any conditions.

“Right Plant, Right Place”; Sun, shade, dry, wet, clay soil, rocky soil and everything in-between. There is a plant for every situation. We can help you choose plants based on your garden’s conditions and your own personal goals for your space.
native plant gardens

Harness the resilience and beauty of our local flora.

Support local biodiversity in the most meaningful way possible, with native plants. Focus entirely on native plants or compliment your existing plantings with the addition of natives.
Lawn alterenatives

Replace your lawn with a thriving ecosystem.

Turn your tired lawn into a fulfilling large or small garden space that has much more ecological benefit or explore lawn alternatives like thymes, clovers and other groundcovers.
Seasonal interest

Make the most out of every season

Does your garden look amazing in spring but finding it falling flat by summer? There are endless possibilities to create multi-season interest in your garden.
